IGP Meets Ibrahim Mahama, Promises Full Investigation Into Alleged Assault
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public of a full investigation into claims by Ghanaian artist Ibrahim Mahama that he was assaulted by police officers in Tamale.
This follows a meeting between Mr Mahama and the Inspector General of Police, together with members of the Police Management Board, over the incident which reportedly happened on March 21.
Speaking after the meeting, DCOP Grace Ansah-Akrofi said the IGP listened to Mr Mahama’s account and assured him that investigations would continue to uncover the truth.

She explained that the Police Service had already begun inquiries shortly after the incident was reported, with both criminal and professional conduct investigations ongoing at the same time.
According to her, officers at the regional level have taken statements from Mr Mahama and his team, visited the scene, and followed up with him at his residence.

She added that the IGP has now directed the CID Headquarters to take over the case to ensure a more detailed investigation, while the Police Professional Standards Bureau has been asked to speed up its work.
The Police Service also assured Mr Mahama of its willingness to work closely with him throughout the process.

DCOP Ansah-Akrofi further noted that Mr Mahama acknowledged his past working relationship with the police and described the incident as unfortunate.
The Service has promised that anyone found guilty will face the law and urged the public to remain calm, assuring that updates will be provided as investigations continue.
