For many years, Ghana’s gospel music scene has been shaped by hit songs that dominate the airwaves, win major awards, and influence the direction of the industry.

From Diana Hamilton’s Adom, which earned her Artiste of the Year at the 2021 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, to Piesie Esther’s Waye Me Yie that ruled 2022 and early 2023, and Nacee’s Aseda which stood out in 2023, gospel music has consistently produced powerful and viral songs.

However, gospel event promoter and artiste manager Nii Noi believes 2025 was different.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Adom TV’s Badwam, Nii Noi explained that although many gospel songs were released in 2025, the year did not produce a standout hit comparable to Team Eternity’s Defe Defe in 2024 or Aseda in 2023.

“We didn’t really have a hit song in 2025 like Defe Defe or Aseda, but that doesn’t mean it was a bad year,” he said.

According to Nii Noi, 2025 was largely a year of preparation for many gospel artistes. Instead of aggressively releasing songs, many musicians focused on planning, recording, and working on major projects and productions.

“There were very good songs in 2025, but if you ask me, it was a year where gospel musicians were preparing for bigger releases and productions,” he explained.

He revealed that several high-quality gospel songs were intentionally held back from release. Nii Noi mentioned that artistes such as Ohemaa Mercy, Joe Mettle, and MOG Music have worked on strong songs that are yet to be unveiled.

“I know Ohemaa Mercy and Joe Mettle have recorded a very beautiful song that hasn’t been released yet. There are also several unreleased songs from Joe Mettle’s camp and MOG’s camp,” he disclosed.

He stressed that these are not ordinary songs but major productions expected to make a strong impact once released.

“So when you look at it closely, 2025 wasn’t a bad year. Many gospel musicians were preparing more than releasing,” he added.

Nii Noi is confident that this preparation phase will pay off, predicting that 2026 will see a strong comeback of hit gospel songs.

“In 2026, we are going to see a lot of big productions and powerful songs. That’s why 2025 didn’t really have a hit song like Defe Defe or Aseda,” he concluded.

His comments suggest that gospel music lovers should look forward to a wave of impactful releases as top artistes prepare to take the scene by storm in the coming year.
