Delivering the message with emotion and resolve, President Traoré described childbirth as a sacred event, asserting that no woman should bear a financial burden while giving life.
“Today, I declare a new era of hope and compassion in our nation. Childbirth is a miracle, and no woman should face financial burdens while bringing life into the world,” he said.
He shared a personal connection to the issue, revealing that his own mother nearly lost him during childbirth due to the cost of delivery—a memory that has deeply influenced his stance on maternal health.
“From now on, any pregnant woman who walks into a government hospital must receive childbirth services free of charge,” he declared.
The new policy takes immediate effect and is expected to ease financial pressure on families, reduce maternal and infant mortality, and significantly improve access to quality healthcare for women throughout Burkina Faso.
