2.1 Million NPP Supporters Didn’t Show Up To Vote – Bawumia
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate for 2024, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reiterated that the party’s defeat in the general elections was largely due to internal voter apathy, revealing that 2.1 million NPP supporters failed to cast their votes.
Speaking at the party’s headquarters on Wednesday, April 23, during the launch of his “Thank You Tour,” Dr. Bawumia stated that despite the NPP’s hard work, the party suffered a significant loss because many of its own backers chose not to vote.
“Notwithstanding our hard work, we still suffered a heavy defeat. When you look at what happened, you will see that it was internal. Many of our supporters did not come out to vote,” he said.

He emphasized that comparing the 2020 and 2024 elections reveals a concerning decline in voter participation within the party. “If you look at 2020 vis-à-vis 2024, 2.1 million of our supporters did not come out to vote. So, the key to victory is within the NPP because we decided not to vote. So, if we decide to vote, we will win.”
Dr. Bawumia’s remarks highlight growing concerns about disconnection within the party’s grassroots base and suggest that future success hinges on re-engaging disenchanted supporters.
