“We Will Reveal IGP Yuhono’s True Age At The Right Time” – Minority Leader, Afenyo-Markin

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, has raised concerns regarding the age of the newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP), COP Christian Tetteh Yuhono, indicating that a thorough investigation will be conducted at the appropriate time.

Speaking during a parliamentary session attended by the IGP and the Interior Minister to address pressing security matters, Afenyo-Markin referenced a statement from the Minister of Government Communications, which officially announced Yuhono’s appointment.

Afenyo-Markin pointed out that the official statement indicated the new IGP has served in the Ghana Police Service for forty years.

He questioned the age at which COP Christian Tetteh Yuhono joined the service, expressing curiosity about the timeline. The newly appointed IGP is reportedly sixty years old, taking over from COP George Akuffo Dampare, who, at fifty-five, still had a few years before reaching retirement age.

Afenyo-Markin acknowledged the introduction of the new IGP and extended his congratulations on the appointment.

He referenced a statement from the Minister of Government Communications, which indicated that the IGP has served in the police force for forty years. He noted that, in due time, calculations would be made to determine whether the IGP joined the service at age 18, 19, or 20.

“This is just by the way,” he added. “I’m only doing the mathematics to see whether the IGP will retire soon. But Mr. Speaker, that’s beside the point.”
