The Kumawood star has carried this burden since her mother’s sudden passing in December 2017, and years later, the pain of those accusations still lingers. In a recent interview on the Okukuseku Show with Emelia Brobbey, Maame Serwaa broke down as she revisited the trauma.
She reflected on how baseless rumors circulated at a time when her family was still mourning. “The terrible remarks about my mum’s death traumatized me,” she revealed. Shortly after her mother’s passing, a self-proclaimed prophetess publicly alleged that the young actress had sacrificed her mother for wealth and fame. These claims not only deepened the family’s grief but also sparked widespread public attention.
The timing, Maame Serwaa recalls, was especially painful as the accusations surfaced just days after her mother’s one-week memorial service. Speaking on the Delay Show in 2018, she denied the allegations with a heavy heart. “It is never true. Kill my mum for what? I was accused of killing my mum a few days after she died,” she said, adding that she had no knowledge of occult practices or any involvement in such groups. At the time, she also pointed out that the accusations made no sense, as she was still living a modest life without extravagant wealth. “I don’t even know what an Illuminati is. I don’t even own a car,” she remarked.
Despite the unfounded rumors, Maame Serwaa has remained strong, using her experiences to honor her mother’s memory and continue her work in the film industry. She has also become a voice for mental health awareness, shedding light on how such accusations can cause emotional distress.
Her story serves as a reminder of the need for sensitivity when discussing others’ personal losses and the importance of showing empathy in times of grief.
