Focus On Talent, Not ”Respect” – Article Wan To Ghanaians

Ghanaian artist Article Wan has called for a change in how the public and industry professionals view musicians, urging Ghanaians to focus more on an artist’s talent than their character.

In an interview on February 10, 2025, Article Wan stated that an artist’s character is part of their craft, and their talent shouldn’t be overlooked because of it.

“Ghana tends to focus too much on respect, but it’s time we shift the focus to promoting an artist’s talent, regardless of their character, because art itself is a reflection of character.”

“The nation should forget about character…I believe character is part of the job,” he said on Hitz FM.

Article Wan also mentioned his “Godfather,” Shatta Wale, who values his talent despite the public’s negative perception of his character.

“My Godfather, Shatta, is often criticized for his character, but that’s part of his job. He’s been singled out because of it. If you try to emulate his style, people will notice. We need to focus on the talent and ignore the character,” he explained.

However, he disagreed with the idea that character should lead to issues within the industry.

“No, I think there should be a balance. The truth is, dealing with a person who has a strong character can be challenging,” he added.
