Nigerians React to Banky W’s Loss
On Sunday, February 26th, 2023, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirmed Thaddeus Attah of the Labour Party (LP) as the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency seat winner in the House of Representatives in the 2019 Nigerian elections.
At the polls, Mr Attah beat popular musician Bankole Wellington, called Banky W, and Babjide, the son of Musiliu Obanikoro, a former minister of state for defense.
Mr Attah received 24,075 votes, outnumbering his opponents, Mr Olubankole Wellington (Banky W) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 18,666 votes, and Mr Babjide Obanikoro of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who received 16, 901 votes.
Banky W had tight marking with the winner, thus it was a close shave.
The ten-over-ten musician and husband of famed actress Adesua Etomi was running for the House of Representatives for the third time.
Regrettably, he was defeated for the second time since beginning his political career.

Banky W’s supporters were stunned by the election results and blamed his defeat on his refusal to join the Labour Party.
