Ghanaian gospel musician Mavis Asante has advised single women not to be influenced by negative stories about marriage, stressing that marriage is a good institution when both partners are committed to making it work.

She shared her thoughts during an exclusive interview on Hitz FM with Doreen Avio and Kwame Dadzie, when she was asked what advice she would give to a young or single woman who wants to know if marriage is worth it.

“Marriage is good. Don’t let anyone deceive you into thinking marriage is bad or that your life ends when you get married. Marriage is good,” she said confidently.

According to Mavis Asante, people may have different opinions about marriage, but she believes it becomes beautiful and fulfilling when couples are intentional and dedicated. She explained that just like careers and businesses require effort and focus, marriage also demands time, energy, and commitment.

“All the effort you put into your career or business, you must put the same effort into your marriage and make it work,” she said, adding that growth in marriage happens gradually, especially when you have an understanding partner.

Drawing from her 15 years of marriage, the singer admitted that her journey has not been easy. She revealed that the early years were particularly challenging and emotionally tough.

“It hasn’t been easy, especially in the beginning. It was very tough. I’ve cried. I’ve experienced difficult moments like any other woman in marriage,” she shared.

However, she said a lesson from a book she once read helped her during hard times. The book taught that marriage improves with time — a belief that gave her strength and patience.
