Sonnie Badu Opens Up About Battling Depression After Losing His Toes

Renowned Ghanaian gospel musician and preacher, Evangelist Sonnie Badu, has spoken candidly about a difficult period in his life after losing two toes in a domestic accident.
The award-winning gospel minister revealed that the incident pushed him into a deep depression, a struggle he says still affects him emotionally because he has never fully understood how the accident happened.
Speaking on Bread of Life, a programme on Promise Radio hosted by Pastor Mrs Patricia Morgan, popularly known as Mama Pat, Sonnie Badu described the experience as one of the darkest moments of his life.

“I went through a very dark season, yet I was still preaching. I fell into serious depression,” he shared.
He explained that although he continued to minister publicly, he was privately battling pain and emotional trauma.
“There were days I would sit alone in my office with the lights off for about six hours, saying nothing to anyone. I would only step out to preach and minister, then return to sit alone,” he recounted.

According to him, the incident left him confused and emotionally broken, as he still struggles to understand how it happened.

A few days before his Rhythm of Africa concert on December 9, 2023, Sonnie Badu suffered a domestic accident that led to the loss of his toes.
The incident generated speculation on social media, with some suggesting it was a publicity stunt to promote the concert. However, the gospel minister strongly denied those claims, insisting the accident was real and deeply painful.
