Speaking before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie explained that although the approval has been granted, the Service is still awaiting the release of GHC10 million to implement feeding costs for the final quarter of the year.

“In these past months, several measures have been taken as outlined in the implementation report. We initially proposed GHC10, but GHC5 was approved after consultations. The President also instructed that GHC10 million be released to cover the last quarter, but the funds are yet to hit our accounts despite the approval,” she said.

The Interior Ministry clarified that the adjustment is intended to improve inmate nutrition and ease the long-standing financial strain on the Ghana Prisons Service.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie highlighted ongoing internal initiatives, including the Director-General Kitchen Support Project, which encourages prison facilities nationwide to set up gardens, poultry, fish ponds, or other small-scale agricultural ventures to supplement inmate meals.

“Churches have also supported occasionally, and as a Directorate, we are doing our best while waiting for the funds to be released,” she added.
