Pastor William Kumuyi Adjusts Deeper Life Marriage Policies, Allows Courtship Visits
The General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, has announced significant changes to some of the church’s marriage guidelines, stressing that they are church practices rather than divine commandments.

Speaking at the 2025 Global Family and Marriage Conference, Pastor Kumuyi responded to a female member’s concern that single ladies often struggle to truly know their prospective husbands due to restrictions on visitations during courtship.
He clarified that the church’s long-standing six-month courtship rule was never biblically mandated, but was introduced to help intending couples avoid sin. However, he emphasized that marriage is a lifelong covenant that shapes a person’s future, making it essential for couples to have enough time and opportunities to understand one another better.

As part of the review, Pastor Kumuyi announced that courtship visits will now be permitted, highlighting the importance of seeing a fiancé in his natural environment.
“You’re marrying the man, but he has his mother, his father, his relatives, and other people around him. When you visit, you’ll see how they relate to you and how he responds. Some men can be very reserved, answering every question with ‘everything is okay,’ while concealing their true behavior. Our sister is right, and I asked myself—why not? If not, follow them home,” Pastor Kumuyi explained.
He further emphasized that this change is rooted in trust and maturity, urging members not to misuse the opportunity by visiting at inappropriate times or engaging in behavior unworthy of Christian conduct.

By making these adjustments, Pastor Kumuyi reminded the congregation of the need to distinguish between church traditions and biblical commands, underscoring that church rules should be a guide to spiritual growth, not a burden on believers.
