Mahama Honours Fallen Air Force Officers With Posthumous Promotions
President John Dramani Mahama has honoured three Ghana Air Force personnel who perished in the August 6 military helicopter crash with posthumous promotions, recognizing what he called their “dedicated service and sacrifice to the nation.”
As Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, the president announced the promotions during a solemn interfaith funeral service at Independence Square on Friday, August 15, 2025. The ceremony brought together government officials, senior military officers, grieving families, and mourners nationwide.

The fallen servicemen were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
With the promotions, Squadron Leader Anala is elevated to Wing Commander, Flying Officer Twum-Ampadu to Flight Lieutenant, and Sergeant Mensah to Flight Sergeant.
President Mahama described their passing as “a profound loss to the nation,” emphasizing that they “gave their lives in the line of duty.” He further pledged that the government would continue to support the bereaved families and preserve the legacy of professionalism and commitment left behind by the officers.
