MTN Ghana Announces Temporary Suspension Of MoMo Services On August 17
MTN Ghana has announced that it will temporarily suspend all Mobile Money (MoMo) services on Sunday, August 17, 2025, to allow for a planned system upgrade designed to boost performance and reliability.

According to Charles Asamoah Assah, Chief Technology and Service Delivery Officer at Mobile Money Limited, the six-hour downtime will run from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. During this period, customers will be unable to send or receive money, make deposits or withdrawals, transfer funds, or pay bills via MoMo.

“Please be informed of a planned system upgrade on 17th August 2025, from 12 midnight to 6 a.m. During this period, all Mobile Money services will be unavailable. This upgrade is to improve our services to you,” Mr. Assah said, apologising for any inconvenience and urging customers to complete urgent transactions in advance.
MTN explained that the maintenance exercise will enable engineers to implement key enhancements, ensuring more efficient service delivery and preparing the platform for future growth. Services are expected to be fully restored immediately after 6:00 a.m. on Sunday.
