Gospel Artist Cwesi Oteng Speaks Out On Spiritual Attacks From Fellow Musicians

Gospel musician Cwesi Oteng has shared startling details about the spiritual battles he faced from some colleagues in the gospel industry during the early days of his career.

In an interview on Joy Prime on April 5, 2025, the God Dey Bless Me hitmaker revealed that his rise to prominence was met with envy and resistance from within the gospel fraternity. He believes the distinctiveness of his sound and the rapid opportunities that followed triggered jealousy among fellow artists.

“When I stepped into the gospel music scene, I brought something fresh. I was breaking into spaces gospel music hadn’t reached before, and doors were opening. But with that came a lot of attacks—spiritually and otherwise,” he said.

According to Oteng, some gospel musicians felt threatened by his innovative approach, fearing that he might overshadow their influence. The situation escalated to the point where people reportedly took his debut album—which included hits like I Win and God Dey Bless Me—to cemeteries and other strange locations in attempts to spiritually hinder his progress.

“People were doing all sorts of things. They even took my album to cemeteries. Church folks attacked me verbally, and other musicians felt I was changing the landscape too much,” he disclosed.

The intensity of these attacks and the pressure eventually forced him to take a break from music. Oteng admitted that the decision was necessary for his well-being, as he prioritized personal renewal over staying constantly in the public eye.

“You want to live long, so sometimes you have to re-energize. Stardom isn’t everything for me. I can step away, take care of myself, and return when I’m ready. Being in the spotlight all the time isn’t my priority,” he explained.

Now back with renewed focus, Cwesi Oteng has released a new single titled Favour. He describes the song as a reminder to believers of the grace and divine advantage they carry a declaration of spiritual identity and encouragement.

With his return, Oteng continues to be a voice of both musical excellence and spiritual authenticity, inspiring a new generation of gospel artists to stay grounded in faith amid challenges.
