New Policy: Ghanaians To Pay Additional $250 For U.S. Visa
Ghanaians applying for U.S. non-immigrant visas will now be required to pay an extra $250, following a newly introduced policy by the U.S. government.
The new fee, known as a visa integrity surcharge, affects a wide range of visa categories, including tourist, student, exchange, and work visas. This brings the total cost of a typical U.S. visa application for Ghanaians to nearly $500, not including additional expenses such as travel, documentation, and appointment fees.
According to a report by Independent.co.uk, the surcharge applies to all applicants from countries not part of the U.S. Visa Waiver Program, including Ghana. However, travelers from nations eligible for ESTA such as the UK, Australia, and Japan are exempt from the fee.

In a related move, the U.S. has also raised the Form I-94 fee used to track international arrivals and departures from $6 to $24, adding further cost to the visa process.
The new $250 charge falls under Section 10007 of a broader U.S. immigration reform law and is non-waivable and non-reducible, regardless of an applicant’s circumstances.
