‘Shut Up, I Bailed You!’ — Bryan Acheampong Scolds Wontumi At NPP Council Meeting

The Bono East Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who also serves on the party’s executive council, has revealed details of a heated exchange between Abetifi MP and NPP flagbearer hopeful Bryan Acheampong and Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

Speaking in an interview on Movement TV on July 15, 2025, the Regional Secretary recounted that the clash occurred during an NPP council meeting where Bryan Acheampong was addressing concerns raised by former President John Agyekum Kufuor. Acheampong was urging party leaders to take Kufuor’s feelings of neglect seriously.

Tensions rose when Chairman Wontumi interrupted to comment on a recent statement by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who had publicly denied reports claiming he tried to delay the party’s delegates’ conference set for July 19, 2025.

Acheampong, reportedly irritated by the interruption, snapped at Wontumi, telling him to “sit down and shut up,” and reminded him that he had once come to his aid during his legal issues with the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
