Democracy Cup: Parliament To Launch Second Edition On July 24
The Parliament of Ghana, led by the Rt. Hon. Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, will officially launch the second edition of the annual Democracy Cup on Thursday, July 24, 2025.

The launch event is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at the Justice D. F. Annan Auditorium within Parliament House.
According to a press statement from the Parliamentary Service, signed by David Sebastian Damoah, Director of the Media Relations Department, the ceremony will serve as a platform to unveil the two football teams selected for this year’s one-off match. It will also outline the event’s format and other related activities.

Introduced in 2024, the Democracy Cup was established as a parliamentary initiative to promote civic engagement and national unity through sport. The maiden edition, held on July 17, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium, saw Kumasi Asante Kotoko defeat Accra Hearts of Oak in a thrilling contest.

“This second edition promises excitement and surprises. The general public and football enthusiasts are encouraged to show their support and participate in the event,” the statement noted.

The 2025 launch is expected to draw Members of Parliament, key figures from the sporting community, club supporters, and members of the general public.
