I had to sacrifice my teaching career in order to fully pursue music – Ohemaa Mercy

Undoubtedly, Gospel musician Ohemaa Mercy is one of the most inspiring and cherished artistes in the country. However, to become the greatest she is today, the singer revealed she had to sacrifice her teaching career for her music ministry.“The ministry was getting bigger, hectic and I could not risk juggling the two jobs at the same time,” she told Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Monday.

The singer explained leaving the classroom, a job she loved, was not easy for her. “I had to pray about it and eventually chose the music, I love the ministry a lot,” she added. The singer says she has plans of opening her own school. “I just like seeing children in the classroom.”

Her sacrifice has given the industry great songs like ‘Onim Me’, ‘Aseda’, ‘Onyame Beye’, ‘Adom’ and many others. She stated, for her, she has to brainstorm with others on themes of music she wants to bring out, to help create good music and grow the ministry.

“Although there are times I get the inspiration, walk to the studio and just sing on the beat I would offer. ‘Wo firimu’ is one of such songs I did not write,” Ohemaa Mercy added.

The gospel musician, however, has been on the low after releasing her last single, ‘Onim Me’ which featured Morris Babyface. Explaining her absence from the scene, Ohemaa Mercy revealed she had lost her in-law while promoting the new song.

“We had to hold on from promoting or releasing any work. Coincidentally, Tahillah Experience also followed but now, we are back to promoting and working on the music again,” she stated.
