Bawumia Hits Ablekuma North, Supports NPP Candidate With GHS 410,000
Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, former Vice President and 2024 flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has thrown his support behind the party’s Ablekuma North parliamentary candidate, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, with a GHS 410,000 donation.

The contribution was reportedly made at Dr. Bawumia’s North Ridge office ahead of the crucial rerun, which covers 19 polling stations in the constituency. He later joined Nana Akua Afriyie on the campaign trail, visibly backing her despite the party’s earlier directive not to participate in the rerun.
Akua Afriyie, who has insisted she won the original December 2024 contest, defied the NPP’s boycott to pursue what she calls “a stolen victory.”

Other leading NPP figures have also rallied behind her:
-
Bryan Acheampong, NPP flagbearer hopeful and MP for Abetifi, donated GHS 200,000, plus $6,500 to support polling station chairpersons and coordinators in Ablekuma North.
-
Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, another flagbearer hopeful, also contributed GHS 200,000 toward Akua Afriyie’s campaign.
The combined support totaling over GHS 800,000 comes despite the party’s official position to boycott the rerun, raising questions about internal unity and strategy.
As the Electoral Commission proceeds with today’s rerun amid tension and controversy, Akua Afriyie continues to receive high-profile endorsements from within her party.
