Renowned filmmaker and outspoken New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporter, Socrate Safo, has openly expressed his admiration for the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) approach to creatives, admitting it often leaves him feeling envious of his counterparts in the opposition party.

In an interview on Okay FM, Safo lamented what he described as the NPP’s dismissive attitude toward professionals in the creative industry during its time in power. He claimed creatives were frequently sidelined from influential roles simply because they lacked formal academic credentials.

“When the NPP was in power, creatives were treated with condescension. They weren’t considered for key positions just because they didn’t have degrees,” Safo said.

He applauded the current NDC administration for shifting that mindset and recognizing the critical role creatives can play in national development. Highlighting the appointment of veteran actress Kalsoume Sinare as Ghana’s Ambassador to Spain, Safo pointed to it as a clear sign of the NDC’s commitment to valuing talent over titles.

“I get jealous of my colleagues in the NDC because their leadership acknowledges and makes use of the talents of creatives. Our side tends to look down on them, missing out on the impact they could make,” he added.
