No Ghanaian ”TikToker” Deserves Celebrity Status – Nana Romeo Declares

Media personality Nana Romeo, current host of Ekwanso Dwodwo on Okay FM, has made a bold statement he believes no Ghanaian TikToker qualifies to be called a celebrity.

Speaking in a recent interview with Zionfelix on the Uncut Show, the outspoken broadcaster expressed strong support for Mona Gucci of Onua FM/TV, who faced backlash for making similar claims.

Mona Gucci had previously clashed with some TikTok creators after asserting that they did not deserve the “celebrity” label.

Nana Romeo echoed her views, stressing that the term “celebrity” carries a depth of meaning and significance that, in his opinion, many TikTok personalities have not earned.

“They may be popular, yes. Some might even be considered stars in their own space. But the title ‘celebrity’ is not one to be used lightly,” he argued.

According to the drive-time host, being a celebrity goes beyond virality or follower count. It should be defined by impact, legacy, and meaningful influence. “A true celebrity is someone who has accomplished something truly worth celebrating,” he emphasized.

Nana Romeo further stated that Ghana cannot possibly have so many celebrities, as the standard for such a title should rest on genuine societal contribution and influence not just internet fame. “If we’re being real, even someone like Sarkodie would have to work hard to earn that title. But because he’s helped project Ghana’s image globally through his music, he’s worthy of it,” he noted.

He concluded by saying that any honest discussion about true celebrities in Ghana would highlight individuals like Dr. Osei Kwame Despite people whose work has transformed lives, built lasting legacies, and earned widespread national respect.
