Seven Lawra SHS Students Die In Canoe Accident On River Dikpe
A tragic incident occurred on the morning of Saturday, June 14, 2025, when seven students from Lawra Senior High School lost their lives after a canoe they were traveling in capsized while crossing the River Dikpe.
The students, part of the school’s cadet corps, were reportedly on a morning jog part of their regular routine when they arrived at the riverbank. According to eyewitness accounts compiled by Graphic Online, they decided to follow a man who was ferrying people across the river in a canoe.

Midway through the crossing, disaster struck. The canoe, carrying ten students, capsized. While three of the students managed to swim to safety, seven were swept away by the strong current.
As of the latest updates, five bodies have been recovered, while search operations are ongoing to retrieve the remaining two.
Neither the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) nor the Ghana Police Service has released an official statement yet regarding the incident.
The community remains in shock as families, students, and staff of Lawra SHS mourn the heartbreaking loss.
