Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has publicly expressed heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Bryan Acheampong for assisting him in meeting stringent bail conditions set by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

Chairman Wontumi was released from EOCO custody on June 2, 2025, after fulfilling a GH₵50 million bail requirement. His arrest occurred on May 27, shortly after he left the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters in Accra.

Dr. Acheampong, former Minister for Food and Agriculture, was instrumental in securing Wontumi’s release, having presented the necessary documentation as one of the sureties.

In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), Wontumi drew a biblical analogy to underscore the importance of gratitude: “Showing gratitude is very important in life, even Jesus acknowledges that. Jesus cured 10 persons with leprosy and after they were healed, only one returned to thank Him and He asked about the whereabouts of the rest. I can’t stay away without coming to show gratitude to you, even though you are my friend.”

He continued, “I could have called you, but if I hadn’t come in person to say thank you, it would have shown that I don’t value what you did for me—and that would amount to disrespect.”

Wontumi also extended appreciation to members and supporters of the NPP for their solidarity during what he described as a challenging period. “When the time comes for us to relate as brothers, we will do what brothers do. But today, I am here to say a very big thank you.”

His comments have since drawn praise from some party loyalists, who see his gesture as a sign of humility and leadership.
