Judge Dismisses Lilwin’s Bid To Stop ₵5M Defamation Suit Filed By Martha Ankomah
Actor Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lilwin, has suffered a legal setback after the High Court in Accra dismissed his attempt to temporarily halt proceedings in a GH¢5 million defamation case brought against him by actress Martha Ankomah.
Lilwin’s legal team had requested a stay of proceedings, arguing that the case should be paused until the Court of Appeal rules on an interlocutory appeal concerning jurisdiction. They contended that since Lilwin resides in Kumasi, the matter ought to be heard there instead of in Accra.

However, the court rejected the request and further imposed a cost of GH¢5,000 against Lilwin. Martha Ankomah’s lawyer, Nii Appiatu Plange, opposed the motion, describing it as a delay tactic. He stressed that the appeal was not actively progressing and that Lilwin had failed to demonstrate the “exceptional circumstances” necessary for a stay.
In his ruling, Justice Forson Baah Agyapong sided with the plaintiff’s team, stating:
“The court is of the considered view that no exceptional circumstance has been professed.”
The defamation suit stems from public comments allegedly made by Lilwin, which Ankomah claims have seriously damaged her reputation. Attempts to reach an out-of-court settlement earlier in the process were unsuccessful.
The case has been adjourned to June 9, 2025, when substantive hearings are expected to continue. Audiovisual evidence reportedly supporting Ankomah’s claims will be presented in open court.
