NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Wontumi Arrested By EOCO
Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as “Wontumi,” the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
His arrest followed a voluntary appearance at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters in Accra, where he was questioned over allegations involving illegal mining, operations in forest reserves, and unauthorized entry into protected areas. He had complied with a previous directive to return as part of his bail conditions.
However, upon exiting the CID premises on Tuesday, May 27, Wontumi was intercepted and taken into custody by EOCO officers. The exact reasons for his arrest remain unclear, as EOCO has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
