Joe Lartey, a distinguished veteran of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), has received recognition for his contributions to the growth of sports journalism in Ghana.

The national broadcaster posted a picture of Mr. Lartey seated in front of a self-portrait with the state broadcaster’s emblem prominently displayed on his right side.

Joe Lartey, the inaugural president of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana, is highly regarded within the sports journalism community (SWAG).

Joachim Awuley Lartey, who was born in Accra on June 6, 1927, first attended the Accra Royal School before moving with his parents to Tamale. At the Gold Coast Treasury Department was his father, Emmanuel Akushey Lartey.

He moved back to Accra in 1938 and enrolled in Kinbu’s Government Senior Boys School. He entered Accra Academy in 1944 after completing his middle school education in 1943.

He joined the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) in 1961 on the advice of BosoKpohonu, a former classmate from Accra Academy.

Joe Lartey is well-known for writing on political and professional sports journalism due to his experience on the field. He thrived as a football pundit and developed a close and working relationship with Festus Addae, who popularized the saying “Over To You Joe Lartey.”

Joe Lartey served as the chief analyst for several games in the Ghana Premier League as well as Ghana’s first and second appearances in the Africa Cup of Nations in 1963 and 1965, respectively. He joined Radio Nigeria after more than ten years and remained there until 1990.
