The programme, which is set to roll out nationwide, aims to train and deploy 5,000 young Ghanaians to support the Prisons Service in various areas, including custodial duties, inmate rehabilitation, safety education, and emergency response.

Speaking at the ceremony, YEA CEO Malik Basintale highlighted the significance of the initiative in addressing unemployment while strengthening Ghana’s correctional system. He further announced a 60% salary increment for the Prison Service Assistants, which will take effect at the end of the month.

“This initiative is not just about job creation, but also about national service, discipline, and giving our young people an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to society,” Mr. Basintale noted.
The development has been widely welcomed as a positive step toward empowering Ghana’s youth while easing the workload on prison officers across the country.
