Wontumi Alleges NDC Plot Against His NPP Chairmanship Bid
Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi and serving as the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has claimed that the ongoing investigations into his company, Akonta Mining Limited, are politically driven and fueled by fear from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In an interview with Wontumi TV on April 23, 2025, Wontumi alleged that his ambition to become the NPP’s National Chairman has stirred jealousy and anxiety within the NDC, leading to what he called deliberate efforts to harass him and undermine his business interests ahead of the 2028 general elections.
“My National Chairmanship ambition has instilled fear in the NDC, which is why they have made me a target,” he asserted.
Recently, the government revoked Akonta Mining’s license due to alleged violations, as announced by the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources. Furthermore, the Financial Intelligence Centre has frozen all bank accounts and financial records associated with Akonta Mining as part of the ongoing probe.
