The arrest follows a police investigation prompted by a July 14, 2025 Adom News report, which showed the woman on surveillance video taking the child while the mother was busy selling cassava.

Posing as a friendly customer, the suspect offered to watch the baby, then quietly left the market with her.

The widely circulated footage helped police identify Ofori, leading to her arrest. Reports say her husband contacted authorities after suspecting the child wasn’t theirs, due to her constant crying. The couple had only recently reunited after living apart.

Both the suspect and the baby are now in custody at the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Ajumako, as investigations continue.
