He cautioned that those who fail to vacate by the deadline will face consequences, including possible physical punishment.
Speaking at a press conference in Kumasi on Monday, April 14, the Mayor announced that starting Wednesday, April 16, 2024, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) would take action to remove vendors from unauthorized spaces.
“I have my own military-democratic approach, which I intend to enforce. If we instruct you to vacate the area and you refuse, and I arrive with my team, we will deal with you on the spot,” he warned.
Since assuming office earlier this year, the new Mayor has introduced a distinct method of enforcing city regulations, referring to it as a “military-democratic style.”
While this term raised eyebrows, Mr. Boadi clarified that it signifies a blend of strict law enforcement with assertive measures to ensure compliance.
“In the heart of Adum, if I’m alone, you might get lucky. But if I’m with my ten men, riding in their pick-up trucks with whips, believe me, you will face the consequences. To avoid such situations, simply abide by the rules,” he added.
His announcement has sparked mixed reactions among residents.
While some support the initiative, believing it will restore order and improve pedestrian safety, others have expressed concerns over the potential for violence and human rights violations.
