We Are Doing Everything Possible To Ensure Lasting Peace In Bawku – Asantehene Assures

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to fostering lasting peace in Bawku and its surrounding areas.

This assurance follows the suspension of earlier peace efforts, which were stalled due to a protracted chieftaincy dispute in the conflict-prone Upper East Region.

Despite these challenges, the Asantehene expressed optimism that recent dialogue with the feuding factions could pave the way for a lasting resolution.

Speaking to a delegation from the UK Advanced Command and Staff Course at the Manhyia Palace, the Asantehene highlighted the critical role of peace in national development.

“We need peace to develop. My duty, together with the traditional authority, is to ensure there is peace everywhere. That’s why we resolve conflicts when they arise, so the government can also carry out its duties in peace,” he explained.

He went on to address the ongoing unrest in the Bawku area, near the Burkina Faso border, reaffirming his commitment to supporting meaningful mediation efforts.

“Recently, there have been some communal conflicts in the northern part of Ghana, near Burkina Faso (Bawku), but we are putting in every effort to ensure lasting peace,” he stated.
