Vice President Pushes For Better Healthcare
Ghana’s Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang recently met with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana, who proposed integrating pharmacists into the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), highlighting their crucial role as the first point of contact for medical care.
The society acknowledged the inclusion of their previous recommendations in policy discussions and sought support for nationwide initiatives focusing on public health education, menstrual hygiene, adolescent reproductive health, and personal hygiene programs for young girls.
The Vice President praised the pharmacists’ contributions to public health, emphasizing the need for preventive healthcare and robust primary health systems. Concerns were raised about regulatory gaps in medication administration, and support was expressed for the sanitary pad initiative, aligning with the Vice President’s advocacy efforts.
The Vice President also stressed the importance of targeted interventions for boys, addressing issues like substance abuse and social challenges. A holistic approach to youth development was advocated, ensuring both boys and girls receive necessary guidance and resources.
