University Of Ghana Suspends Social Activities Following COVID-19 Spike
In response to a recent surge in COVID-19 cases, the University of Ghana has announced the immediate suspension of all social events on campus.
The directive, aimed at safeguarding the health and wellbeing of the university community, was issued on Wednesday, June 25. It was signed by Professor Rosina I. Kyerematen, Dean of Student Affairs. “Due to the resurgence of COVID-19 cases on the University of Ghana campus, it has become necessary to suspend all social gatherings with immediate effect,” the notice stated.

The suspension affects all student organizations, including the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG), the Student Representative Council (SRC), Junior Common Rooms (JCRs), as well as departmental and school associations.
In addition, all scheduled week celebrations and related events have been postponed until further notice.
The university emphasized that the measure is a proactive step to protect public health and called on all student leaders and stakeholders to comply fully with the directive.

Key administrative figures including the Pro Vice-Chancellor (ASA), Director of Public Affairs, Director of Safety and Security Services, heads of departments, senior tutors, hostel managers, and patrons of student organizations were all copied on the communication.
As the institution confronts the latest wave of infections, the announcement underscores a renewed commitment to caution and safety on campus.
