The University of Ghana School of Law (UGSoL) has emerged victorious in the 2025 Jessup Ghana Moot Court Competition.

The team achieved a flawless record of four wins and no losses, culminating in a decisive victory over the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in the final round.

In addition to clinching the championship title, UGSoL received several prestigious accolades, including Best Respondent Memorial, Best Overall Memorial, and Second Best Overall Oralist. The team comprised Bernard Mwinyele Banoenumah, Elsie Eyram Akubia, Ann Aseye Donya, Andy Nyarko Asare, and Freda Elinam Ganu, with faculty advisors Liz Fafa Logan and Sarah Anane providing guidance.

Following their national triumph, the team presented their trophy to the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo. During the presentation, Prof. Gordon Awandare, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, lauded the team’s achievement and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence, stating, “You have taken upon yourselves the challenge of setting a benchmark: you need to keep winning.”

Looking ahead, the UGSoL team is set to represent Ghana at the international rounds of the Jessup Moot Court Competition in Washington, D.C., scheduled for March 2025. Team member Bernard Mwinyele Banoenumah expressed their commitment to intensifying preparations, aiming to secure the coveted international championship.

The Jessup Moot Court Competition is renowned globally, attracting participants from approximately 700 law schools across 100 countries. It simulates a fictional dispute between nations before the International Court of Justice, requiring teams to prepare oral and written pleadings for both applicant and respondent positions.

The UGSoL’s recent victory underscores their dedication to legal excellence and positions them as strong contenders on the international stage.
