The United States government has donated 14 Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) as part of ongoing efforts to bolster Ghana’s security infrastructure and deepen bilateral defense cooperation.

The official handover ceremony took place at the 153 Armoured Regiment, Abuga Square, Burma Camp, where U.S. Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Virginia Palmer, formally presented the vehicles to Ghanaian military officials.

Ambassador Palmer highlighted the strategic importance of the donation, particularly in reinforcing security along Ghana’s northern borders amid growing instability in the Sahel region.

She reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting Ghana through military partnerships, capacity-building initiatives, and the provision of essential defense equipment.

“The United States values its strong partnership with Ghana and remains committed to supporting its efforts to strengthen both national and regional security,” stated U.S. Ambassador Virginia Palmer.

Receiving the equipment on behalf of the Ghana Armed Forces, Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah expressed heartfelt appreciation to the U.S. government and its citizens for their continued support in promoting peace and security.

He assured that the armoured vehicles would be properly maintained and utilized to ensure maximum operational effectiveness and longevity.

This latest contribution is regarded as a significant boost to Ghana’s peacekeeping and counterterrorism capabilities, particularly amid the evolving security challenges in the region.
