Tribute By Wife Of Late Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah
Mrs. Rita Omane Boamah, widow of the late Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, delivered a moving tribute to her husband during the interdenominational state funeral held on Friday, August 15, for the eight victims of the Sikaman helicopter crash.

Dr. Omane Boamah tragically lost his life on August 6, alongside seven others, when a military helicopter went down in a forested area at Sikaman in the Adansi Akrofrom District of the Ashanti Region. The delegation was on its way to Obuasi for the launch of the government’s Cooperative Mining Initiative when the accident occurred.
Other lives claimed in the disaster included: Minister for Environment, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Muniru Mohammed; NDC Vice Chairman, Dr. Samuel Sarpong; Deputy NADMO Director-General and former parliamentary candidate, Samuel Aboagye; as well as Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah of the Ghana Air Force.

In her heartfelt tribute, Mrs. Boamah fondly remembered her late husband, affectionately calling him “Kofi B.” She recounted their journey from the very beginning, when fate brought them together, to their marriage, which became a beautiful union filled with love, laughter, and double celebrations on her birthdays.
She recalled their shared memories of simple joys, like late-night walks to buy kenkey and fish, which became a hallmark of their bond. She praised him as a devoted husband and father who balanced his demanding career as a doctor and politician with tender care for their children—bathing and dressing them each morning, guiding their studies, and making room for fun and adventure.
“You were truly a family man, a definition of a genuine person with a pure heart of gold,” she said, adding that his love extended beyond her and their children to her wider family and everyone who came to know him.
Mrs. Boamah acknowledged her husband’s constant question: “Abena Rita, what will you do when I am not around?”—a question she admitted she still has no answer to. But she pledged, with God’s help, to care for their three children and her mother, trusting that her husband would continue to watch over them from above.
