Driving is a skill and an experience that involves controlling a vehicle’s movement. It therefore requires you to multitask that is, combining series of ‘keys” to ensure a smooth and safe activity.

However, most people lack some basic rules when it comes to driving and as such this leads to mistakes which cost lives. Driving has been identified as a fun filled activity and a stress reliever but also one of the most riskiest activities. This is so because even with the most experience and high level of expertise that is outstanding, there are still increasing number of cases of accidents day in and day out.

Here are some tips that will guide you in driving:

  1. Get to know your vehicle well. Take it as preparing for an exam, the more time you spend on your reading materials, the less stress you go through during your exam.
  2. Check if all your mirrors are adjusted correctly to prevent blind spots. Make sure you are in your normal driving position when adjusting them.
  3. Avoid driving in someone else’ blind spots.
  4. Learn to feel where the wheels are. Get an opened plastic bottle, step on it with your foot and put it on your road. Practice driving over with your left and right front wheel and turn. Open your window to hear the bottle crunch. It helps to avoid where potholes are.
  5. Park guided by your windows and mirrors.
  6. Learn to drive in bad weather. It is better to be prepared for unforeseen situations.
  7. Dry your brakes after driving through a puddle.
  8. Watch out for the maneuvers of taller cars in front of you.
  9. If the car doesn’t start, turn the high beams on.
  10. Lower your rear-view mirror at night.
  11. Turn on the air conditioners for sometime. This prevents dry tubes.
  12. Use the handbrake regularly except in extremely cold weather conditions.
  13. If a car in the neighbouring lane is slowing down, follow suit.
  14. Don’t let the illusion of low speed deceive you.
  15. Don’t turn the wheels before hand when making a left turn.
