She was among those injured in the violent clash that occurred at St. Peter’s Methodist Church last Friday while voting was still underway.

In an interview with UTV, the former Member of Parliament refuted claims that she stormed the polling station with pepper spray to attack others.

According to Hawa Koomson, the pepper spray was solely for self-defense. She explained that she had been at the polling station peacefully when she was suddenly attacked. She only used the spray after realizing one of the attackers appeared to be armed.

“They targeted me and came at me with a knife, so I used pepper spray in self-defense,” she stated.

She further alleged that the individuals behind the attack included the husband of the sitting MP for Awutu Senya East, Phillis Naa Koryoo, along with his associates.

“I know I’m a threat to the NDC, which is why I always take steps to protect myself wherever I go,” she added.
