The True Test Of Your Praise Is In The Face of The Storm – Nathaniel Bassey
Award-winning Nigerian gospel artist and worship leader Nathaniel Bassey, has delivered a deeply moving message on his official Twitter (formerly X) page, reminding believers of the importance of praising God not only in good times but especially during life’s most difficult seasons.

In a post that has since resonated with thousands online, Bassey wrote:
“The true test of your praise is in the face of the storm. When all hell breaks loose and the odds are stacked up against you.”
He continued by reflecting on how easy it is to shout “hallelujah” when everything is going well — when prayers are answered, expectations are met, and testimonies abound. But he challenged believers to consider their posture when circumstances are less than ideal:
“What happens when you’ve done all you know to do, yet you’re still stuck in the mud of life? Do you hold back your praise?”
Bassey pointed out a common spiritual pitfall praising God only when circumstances are favorable. He questioned whether declaring God’s goodness after a breakthrough suggests that God was not good, powerful, or faithful before the turnaround.
“The true worth and value of our honour and praise of God is when there appears to be no just cause to worship Him,” he said.
Drawing inspiration from the biblical example of King David, Bassey urged believers to praise God “YET” in spite of their trials affirming that God’s nature does not change based on our circumstances.

He shared a personal practice that strengthens his faith during hard times: recalling and recounting God’s past goodness.
“I dwell there until faith is birthed. And soon after, hope rises and His joy kicks in to strengthen the inner man.”
Bassey concluded his post with a call to hold on to faith and the eternal truth of God’s goodness. He backed his reflection with a powerful scripture from Deuteronomy 32:3–4:
“Because I will publish the name of the Lord: ascribe ye greatness unto our God. He is the Rock, his work is perfect… a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.”
The post has since been widely shared, encouraging many to praise through pain, believe beyond circumstances, and cling to the unwavering nature of God.
The true test of your praise is in the face of the storm. When all hell breaks lose and the odds are stacked up against you. Anyone can hola a hallelujah when it’s all calm, cool and rosy. When expectations are met and testimonies overflow. But what happens when you have done all…
