Tears trickle down as Ewura Abena, talks about her struggles with mental health and suicidal thoughts.
Ewura Abena, the composer of hit song “This Far,” recently revealed a startling truth about her life experiences and how her ignorance of mental health and intense anxiety nearly caused her premature death.
The singer-songwriter recounted these difficult experiences in an emotional one-on-one chat (UnEdited) with Miriam on 3FM, Wednesday June 14, 2023.
According to her, her path through life was not entirely blissful. She remembered enjoying life up until she became pregnant after her marriage.
Surprisingly, she revealed that she was confined to a bed for the entirety of her pregnancy and that her labor was literally a matter of life or death. That, according to her, is when she first had mental health issues.

She also disclosed how her thriving business, which was all around her, had collapsed. With the demeaning state of her pregnancy and in the years that followed after giving birth, she wallowed in debts. She was left in a profoundly depressed and anxious state, and was completely lost.
She recalled how many times music promoters and producers had taken advantage of her, leading her to give up on her dream of becoming a global singer.
She claims, however, that because she didn’t know she was depressed, trying to talk to someone was unsuccessful. Since she had endured so much humiliation and suffering, she had decided to take matters into her own hands since, in her opinion, she could no longer bear it.
Because of this, she had suicidal thoughts about taking her own life and the lives of her children, but God intervened via persons.
Because of this devastating incident, she implores everyone to implement the need to talk to someone, rather than seeking comfort in taking one’s own life.
