Suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo Takes Legal Action Against Ghana at ECOWAS Court, Seeks $10 Million in Damages
Suspended Chief Justice of Ghana, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, has taken her case to the ECOWAS Court of Justice, demanding $10 million in compensation from the Government of Ghana.

In her petition, Justice Torkornoo argues that her suspension inflicted significant “moral and reputational damage,” violating her fundamental rights and undermining the integrity of the judiciary. She contends that her removal tarnished her public image and compromised the principles of judicial independence.
Her legal team maintains that the suspension was politically driven and lacked due process, describing it as procedurally unfair. The petition calls on the regional court to hold the Ghanaian government accountable and to reinforce the importance of constitutional governance and an independent judiciary.

As of now, the Government of Ghana has not issued an official response to the suit.
