Some Ghanaian Pastors Chase Luxury Over Caring For People – Esther Smith
Gospel singer Esther Smith has raised concerns about the conduct of some Ghanaian pastors, accusing them of focusing more on wealth and luxury than on caring for the vulnerable in society.
Drawing from her experiences living in Hamburg, Germany, the celebrated artiste explained that churches abroad often invest contributions from members into developmental projects and initiatives that directly support the poor. According to her, this approach makes a real difference in people’s lives.

In contrast, she lamented that some pastors in Ghana appear more interested in using church funds to acquire luxurious cars and showcase their wealth, a trend she believes has eroded public trust in the church.

Speaking in an interview on Power FM, Esther Smith urged pastors to change this narrative and prioritize positive impact over extravagance.
“As I stay in Hamburg, they build giant church auditoriums through contributions from church members and other pastors. We need to wise up; they have cheated us for so long, and this has discouraged a lot of people. I am not accusing all pastors because some are good.
“If you go to the white man’s church, they are more concerned about the poor and vulnerable in society. But our pastors are thinking about how they can use luxurious cars. We are tired,” she stressed in Twi.
