Sky Train Scandal: Former GIIF Officials To Appear In Court On July 23
The Accra High Court has scheduled July 23 as the start date for the trial of former Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) Board Chairman, Prof. Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi, and former CEO, Solomon Asamoah, in connection with the failed $2 million Accra Sky Train project.

The two have been charged with causing financial loss to the state and the willful misuse of public funds. Both pleaded not guilty and have been granted bail.
At a hearing on Wednesday, July 9, Prof. Ameyaw Akumfi’s legal team formally withdrew an earlier motion that sought to have the charges against him dismissed. That application had led the Attorney General’s office to request an expedited hearing, which prompted the court to initially set the case for July 3. However, proceedings could not move forward on that date as the defense team failed to appear.
With the application withdrawn in open court, Justice Comfort Tasiame struck it out. Meanwhile, Solomon Asamoah’s lawyer, Victoria Barth, requested additional time to review case documents, having recently taken over from previous counsel.

Following this, Justice Tasiame adjourned the case to July 23 for the trial to officially begin.
The prosecution noted that they plan to call the first of eight witnesses when the trial opens.
