Ghana, in a solemn and emotional farewell on Friday, August 15, laid to rest six of the eight victims of the August 6, 2025, military helicopter crash.

The burial took place at the Military Cemetery in Tse Addo, Greater Accra, where government officials, senior military officers, bereaved families, and mourners from across the nation gathered to pay their last respects.

Earlier in the day, an interfaith funeral service was held at Black Star Square, filled with tributes and tears in honour of the fallen.

During the ceremony, President John Dramani Mahama announced the establishment of an Educational Children’s Support Fund to cover the schooling of the victims’ children from primary through university. He also conferred posthumous promotions on three Ghana Air Force personnel: Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

President Mahama, Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, military chiefs, government officials, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and other dignitaries joined grieving families to lay wreaths at the Military Cemetery.

The farewell was conducted with full military honours, featuring solemn performances by the Ghana Air Force and Ghana Armed Forces bands.

Two of the victims Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed and Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed — had been laid to rest earlier on August 10.

Those buried on August 15 were Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Samuel Aboagye, NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
