Shatta Wale Performed For Free At President’s Cup – Sports Ministry

The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has disclosed that dancehall star Shatta Wale performed pro bono at the 2025 President’s Cup, personally covering all production costs, including dancers, costumes, rehearsals, and stage setup.

In a public statement, the Ministry praised Shatta Wale’s gesture as a patriotic tribute “in honour of the President and the Ghanaian people.” The artist later confirmed this on social media, adding that his ride-hailing company, Shaxi, sponsored the performance.

The announcement follows widespread praise for the President’s Cup, which filled the Accra Sports Stadium to capacity on Sunday, 6 July. The Ministry hailed the event as a milestone in restoring public trust in local football.

Sports Minister Kofi Adams is being credited for the turnaround, having led strategic marketing and fundraising efforts that ensured the event’s success without relying on public funds. A special committee chaired by Dr Tony Aubynn and Bola Ray raised sponsorships, while performances by Camidoh, Bogo Blay, and Kwaku Smoke added entertainment value.

The Ministry also highlighted recent infrastructure improvements at the stadium, noting measures taken to protect the pitch and comply with international standards.

They concluded that the Cup’s success, combined with the earlier Black Stars Chad match, proves that strategic planning and stakeholder engagement can revive Ghanaian sports.

“The Sports Minister has released a statement clarifying that Shatta Wale was not paid and even covered the cost of production for his performance at the President’s Cup Match, as a way of honoring President John Dramani Mahama.”
