Kumawood actor Big Akwes has stirred conversation with his bold stance on money’s role in relationships, declaring it a “shame” for a man not to buy a Valentine’s Day gift for his girlfriend.

During a chat on Max TV, Big Akwes answered a question from a male viewer who asked what to do if he couldn’t afford a Valentine’s gift for his significant other.
The actor’s response was straightforward: “You need to spend some money and get something nice for your girlfriend. If you can’t afford a Valentine’s gift, why is she still with you? Sell your phone and buy something for your partner.”
Big Akwes stressed the importance of financial stability in relationships, claiming that emotional and physical closeness alone cannot sustain a healthy partnership.
He added, “She should leave the relationship. It’s a disgrace if you can’t even afford a bar of chocolate for your girlfriend. It’s a huge insult.”
The actor also had a message for women, advising them to be cautious if their partners neglect to buy gifts for Valentine’s Day. However, he encouraged women to reciprocate by getting gifts for their partners, stating, “If your boyfriend can’t buy anything for you, leave the relationship. But if he does, you should also get him something — a watch or something simple would be fine.”
