Scrapping Jubilee House TV Subscriptions Saves GH₵120K Monthly – Felix Ofosu Kwakye
Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has revealed that President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to cancel all satellite TV subscriptions at the Jubilee House is saving the presidency approximately GH₵120,000 each month.

This move forms part of the government’s broader effort to cut down on unnecessary spending. The directive ensures that no office within the presidency subscribes to DStv or any other paid satellite television service.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Mr. Ofosu Kwakye explained that the Mahama administration uncovered the cost while reviewing inherited operational expenses at the seat of government.

“When we came to the Jubilee House, there were multiple subscriptions in addition to local channels. After taking stock and doing the math, we found that satellite subscriptions alone were costing around GH₵120,000 a month. President Mahama has since cancelled all of that,” he said.
He questioned the justification for such spending, particularly when far smaller amounts could resolve critical needs in local communities.
“There are places where a broken water pump costing just GH₵1,000 is all that stands between residents and clean water. Yet we were spending GH₵120,000 monthly just to watch TV,” he remarked.
