Sanitation Workers Under YEA To Get 300% Pay Increase – Basintale
The Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, has revealed plans to increase allowances for beneficiaries of the sanitation module by over 300% under a new waste management agreement.

This announcement comes after the suspension of YEA’s contract with Zoomlion Ghana Limited, which paid beneficiaries GH¢258 monthly an amount widely criticised as insufficient.

Speaking to journalists after appearing before the Public Accounts Committee on Friday, August 22, 2025, Mr. Basintale said a review committee is currently assessing tenders to select a new waste management service provider.
“When I assumed office, I vowed that no contract would be signed to pay GH¢258. That amount is unacceptable in today’s Ghana. In any new agreement, we will not go below the minimum wage. We are considering an increment of over 300 percent,” he emphasized.

He further disclosed that around 5,000 beneficiaries who failed to report to duty will forfeit two months of unpaid salaries.
“We have not uncovered ghost names; rather, we found individuals who were absent. Those present have been validated, but the absentees will lose two months’ pay. Beneficiaries who were validated can confirm that their allowances have already been credited to their accounts,” he clarified.
