Sam George Orders Comprehensive Audit Of Frequency Authorisations
Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has launched a bold initiative to ensure transparency in the allocation and management of radio frequency authorisations. In a directive issued on February 12, 2025, the Minister instructed the Acting Director-General of the National Communications Authority (NCA) to provide a detailed report on all frequency authorisations issued or renewed in the past 60 days.
This move forms part of the government’s new initiative, Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL), aimed at reclaiming state assets that may have been improperly allocated or used. The Minister emphasized the need to safeguard state resources under the Ministry’s purview, ensuring they are managed in strict adherence to legal procedures.
“This is the first step in restoring transparency and order to the broadcasting industry,” said the Minister. “The government is committed to ensuring accountability and fairness in the management of national resources.”
The audit will examine whether the issuance and renewal of frequency authorisations complied with statutory requirements and whether they align with the broader interests of the state. Any irregularities uncovered will be addressed appropriately, and the public will be updated on further actions following the submission of the report.
This announcement has sparked discussions across the broadcasting and telecommunications sectors, with many viewing it as a step in the right direction for improving accountability. The move is also expected to ensure equitable access to the nation’s frequency resources while protecting the state from potential revenue losses.
